Project description: BAY-LCR

Long COVID Research in Bavaria

The Bavarian Long COVID Registry (BAY-LCR) is one of the Bavarian Center for Health Research and Innovation (BZI)’s first cross-cutting initiatives and is being established across multiple sites throughout Bavaria. It systematically collects key symptoms and potential biomarkers from patients with post-acute infection syndromes (PAIS), such as Long COVID. The aim is to improve our understanding of the diverse and sometimes complex long-term consequences of infections, including those caused by SARS-CoV-2. In the long term, the data collected will help improve care for people affected by Long COVID and other forms of PAIS. It will also support the establishment of standardized diagnostic and treatment pathways, as well as associated biobanks and quality assurance measures.

The objective is to establish an accurate diagnosis and, based on this, evaluate tailored therapeutic approaches in both clinical care and research settings. Through this registry, Bavaria is making an important contribution to research, healthcare, and public awareness in the field of Long COVID and related post-acute infection syndromes, while strengthening the scientific foundation for targeted prevention and treatment.
